Appliance Recycling & Refrigerator Removal

Appliance Recycling and Removal

Moving a washer, dryer, refrigerator or stove without extra hands can be a difficult job. Refrigerators can weigh around 100 kilos and require proper techniques to be removed without causing damage to the ones lifting the appliance or to the home.  Besides the sheer size and weight of most appliances that make it nearly impossible to move them, there are other reasons it is important that appliance removal is done properly.

When old appliances are left as they are in a landfill they can potentially be a health hazard and an environmental risk factor.  Appliances will break down over time, and when they do, the chemicals within them are released into the environment.  When we remove your appliances we dispose of them responsibly so you won’t have to worry about harming the planet.

Refrigerator Disposal

No matter how old your refrigerator is or what kind of condition it is in, when it’s time to get rid of it you’ll probably need some help in order to do it right.  Old refrigerators especially contain harmful chemicals like, Freon that is a gas used as a coolant.  The gas runs through coils beneath the fridge in order to keep the temperatures within the main compartment of the refrigerator and the freezer at the set temperatures.

If old refrigerators are carelessly thrown out with other waste, the Freon can leak from the coils and be very harmful to the environment. Proper refrigerator disposal is done after the coolant has been removed.  When you hire Student Works Disposal for refrigerator disposal, we ensure that all the necessary measures are taken before your fridge can be thrown away.  We also will try to donate used refrigerators to local charities if they are working and in adequate condition.

We recycle appliances whenever possible.

How can appliances be recycled? Why should we participate in appliance recycling?

  • Metal can be taken from most household appliances and turned into metal recycling.
  • Metal recycling enables the metal to be reused for other purposes and saves our planet’s natural resources.
  • The process of turning raw materials into aluminum depletes natural resources and burns an exorbitant amount of energy. Aluminum recycling ends up saving 95% of the energy it takes to make new aluminum. When 1 ton of aluminum is recycled, the amount of energy saved could power an average home for 10 years or more.
  • Throwing away an aluminum can instead of recycling it wastes the same amount of energy as pouring half of that same can filled with gasoline onto the ground. It’s a complete waste!
  • Producing recycled rubber takes only 29% of the energy that it would take to produce the same amount of new rubber.
